Sehrish Muluk - Leading Change from Within

Sehrish Maluk, an inspiring educator at IMSG Tarnol, joined hands with Climate Class Connection (CCC) with one mission in mind: to empower her students and community through climate action. Attending CCC’s climate education sessions, Sehrish was deeply motivated by the idea of engaging the local community to tackle environmental issues. She quickly realized that waste management was a pressing concern in her area and took it upon herself to lead the change With guidance from CCC, Sehrish organized various activities that brought together students, parents, and community members. She mobilized the local community to address the waste problem, urging them to work together for a cleaner environment. She also began advocating with the Capital Development Authority (CDA), pressing for the installation of waste collection bins and regular garbage collection services. However, her initial efforts were met with resistance, as the CDA refused her request, citing that the community was residing illegally.

Undeterred, Sehrish took a bold step. She rallied the community, gaining their support and commitment to work with the CDA. She convinced them to make a pledge: to fully cooperate with the CDA in maintaining cleanliness. Armed with the community’s backing, Sehrish approached the CDA again, demonstrating that the residents were willing to collaborate for the common good. Impressed by her leadership and the community’s promise, the CDA agreed to install waste collection points and began a routine collection schedule every two weeks.

Sehrish’s story is a powerful example of how gender can play a positive role in climate action. Her leadership, determination, and ability to unite her community led to a tangible impact, proving that women are vital agents of change in environmental sustainability. Today, the community not only celebrates a cleaner environment but also recognizes how collective action, led by a female educator, can inspire meaningful change.
